The Oregon District is Dayton’s oldest Historic District and its home to one of the earliest surviving combinations of commercial and residential architecture in the city.
In response to the 2019 shooting tragedy, Cincinnati Bell partnered with the Oregon District Business Association to implement a Smart City solution in the area. The goal of this project was to install fiber to provide free public WIFI and video surveillance to improve safety. The WIFI allows analytics and engagement software for the local businesses, cameras to cover alleyways and parking, and links on the WIFI portal to facilitate donations to the Dayton Foundation.
PCS supported this project in August of this year by installing cameras and access points on business fronts throughout 5th street in the Oregon District. PCS along with AXIS, Genetec, CBT, CBTS and other vendors donated 100% of the time and material on this project! Our Project Manager, Marc Schilling, collaborated with Cincinnati Bell and business owners to facilitate overall coordination of the work. Mark Holstein supported this project for PCS by spending time on the job site and providing insight using his familiarity of the Oregon District, having grown up in the Dayton area. PCS technicians Zach Mann, Justin Johnson, Matt Johnson, Andrew Ashcraft and Chad Howard completed the installation of the cameras and access points.
